Flat feet and arch pain treatment in Newcastle
Plenty of people have flat feet and never have a problem. But when a low or collapsing arch starts causing pain in your feet, ankles, shins or knees — or your arch is getting flatter over time — it's time to get it checked.
Tim assesses why your arch is behaving the way it is, and treats the cause. For many people that means targeted strengthening, footwear changes and custom orthotics, 3D scanned and designed in-house around your exact foot shape.

Signs your flat feet need attention
If two or more of these sound familiar, you're in the right place:
Aching arches after standing or walking for long periods
Pain on the inside of your ankle, sometimes with swelling
One arch seems to be getting flatter than the other
Shin, knee or hip pain that seems to start at your feet
Your shoes wear heavily on the inside edge
Your feet feel tired and sore by the end of the day
Flat feet that don't hurt usually don't need treatment — but pain or a changing arch is worth checking.

Painful flexible flat feet and overpronation
When a flexible arch collapses too far or too long during walking, it can overload the muscles, tendons and joints of the foot and leg. We use strengthening, footwear advice and, where needed, custom orthotics to support the arch and reduce strain.
Adult-acquired flatfoot (PTTD)
If one arch is gradually flattening and the inside of your ankle is sore, the tibialis posterior tendon may be struggling. Early assessment and treatment matter — this condition does better the sooner it’s managed.
Arch strain and plantar fasciitis
Low arches can increase strain on the plantar fascia and arch muscles. We treat the pain and the mechanics behind it.
Shin and knee pain linked to foot posture
Foot posture can influence how load travels up the leg. We assess the whole chain and address the foot-related factors.
Flat feet in children
Most children’s flat feet are flexible and develop normally. We treat them when they’re painful, limiting activity or not developing as expected.
What happens at a flat foot assessment
Here's what to expect when you come in:
1. Your symptoms and history
Where it hurts, when it started, your work, sport and footwear.
2. Foot posture and strength testing
Arch height, flexibility, tendon strength and single-leg heel raise testing.
3. Gait analysis and 3D scan
We watch how your foot moves as you walk, and 3D scan your feet if orthotics are likely to help.
4. Your treatment plan
Exercises, footwear guidance and custom orthotics — usually fitted within 5–7 days if prescribed.

Flat feet FAQs
No. Flat feet that aren't causing pain or problems often don't need treatment. Orthotics are recommended when your foot posture is contributing to pain or injury.
Strengthening the foot and lower-leg muscles can reduce symptoms and improve how your arch copes with load, even if the arch shape doesn't change much.
A gradually flattening arch in adults can be a sign the tibialis posterior tendon is struggling. It's worth having it assessed early.
With normal daily use, our 3D printed orthotics typically last 5–10 years. We recommend a yearly review to check fit and wear.
